1 dead, 3 missing after boat capsizes in St. Johns River

Four recovered safely after incident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Friday night search continues for three missing boaters after a boat capsized in the St. Johns River.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue confirmed one person was found dead near the boat and four were recovered safely. JFRD could not confirm the age of the body recovered, but said of the four initially missing there were two adults and two children. The search for the remaining three boaters continues.

According to JFRD, the group was out taking photos of the sunset and said the call came in around 8 p.m. on Friday for a capsized boat near the Dames Point Bridge.

First responders with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Coast Guard and Fish and Wildlife Commission and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the Mill Cove area of Jacksonville, near where the Trout River and St. John’s River intersect.

The investigation into what cause the boat to flip continues.

JSO and the Coast Guard will remain on scene as the search continues.

The Lions Club Boat Launch and the Reddie Point Reserve will be closed during the investigation.
