Witnesses told deputies Julie Murphy, 58, and another person were arguing outside a home. The argument got heated and Murphy shot the person in the back and then fired multiple rounds at them as they lay wounded on the ground, deputies said. The victim was taken to the hospital where they remain in critical condition as of Tuesday morning.
Investigators said they recovered eight shell casings and one bullet projectile from the scene.
“This appears to be an isolated domestic-related incident,” said Sheriff Bill Leeper. ”Preventing domestic violence requires our entire community working together. It’s crucial that we educate everyone about healthy relationships, offer support to those in need, and foster an environment where violence is not tolerated.”
Murphy is currently being held at the Nassau County Jail and Detention Facility on an over $1 million bond.
