JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A JSO lieutenant who shot into a semi-truck on Interstate 95 last month has returned to work and was administratively reassigned, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO said on Wednesday that Lieutenant Marc Crawford was reassigned to the tele-serve team, the unit that takes reports on minor incidents over the phone in order to relieve officers to handle more serious investigations. Crawford was originally placed on administrative leave following the shooting that happened during rush hour on March 10.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear and no charges have been filed.

According to police, Crawford “came into contact” with a semi-truck driver, identified as 70-year-old James Debardeleben, while driving on I-95.
Then, JSO said Crawford, who was in plain clothes and in an unmarked vehicle, got out of his car and engaged with Debardeleben before firing four rounds into the truck, which ended up in the engine bay.
The agency said the driver was not hurt, but the lieutenant was taken to the hospital with a shoulder injury.

On March 12, Sheriff T.K. Waters said the details of the incident were still unclear because Crawford had not made a statement.
JSO did not provide any further details on Wednesday regarding the incident or the investigation, which remains active.
After the State Attorney’s investigation is complete, a JSO administrative investigation will occur.
The shooting was the fourth officer-involved shooting that Crawford has been involved in throughout his 21-year career and the second for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 2025, police said at the time.
