JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was charged with murder in connection with the death of a woman found dead in a lot on Jacksonville’s Westside in 2024, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Warren Abernathy, 41, was charged on Tuesday with the murder of Kristie Lee Murray, 49.

On July 6, 2024, police were called to Pickettville Road after residents reported seeing a body in a lot.
When officers arrived, they found Murray dead with a severe head injury.
According to JSO, the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide and evidence showed there was a struggle.
After conducting their investigation, detectives identified Abernathy as the suspect.
Abernathy was arrested that same day on an unrelated burglary charge.
“We will work closely with our partners at the State Attorney’s Office to ensure Ms. Murray’s family and friends receive the justice they deserve,” JSO wrote.
