Troopers said the motorcycle was “observed traveling at a high rate of speed just before the crash,” which was reported around 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the report, the motorcycle hit the back of the car, sending both the bike and the rider over the top of the car and skidding several hundred feet down the roadway.

The motorcyclist was taken to Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Troopers said he was wearing a helmet.

The 43-year-old man driving the car, his 34-year-old female passenger and three children -- ages 10, 8, and 6 -- were all taken to Wolfson Children’s Hospital for treatment. They were expected to be OK.

They were all wearing seat belts, the report said.
