250-acre brush fire in Alachua County 70% contained

Drivers are asked to use caution due to heavy smoke in the area

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Department of Forestry crews were working to contain a brush fire Monday afternoon in Alachua County, according to the sheriff’s office.

In a Facebook post, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were in the area of East County Road 225 and County Road 1475 due to a brush fire of approximately 100 acres.

As of 7:45 p.m., the fire had spread to 250 acres, but officials said it was still 70% contained.

Multiple units, including eight dozers, one helicopter that was dropping water over the fire and a fixed-wing airplane, responded to the fire.

Deputies will be in the area to help motorists due to heavy smoke. No evacuations or road closures have been ordered.

Drivers were asked to use caution when traveling in this area.
