Gov. DeSantis signs bill allowing Floridians to make transactions in gold and silver

APOPKA, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Tuesday that allows Floridians to conduct transactions in gold and silver.

DeSantis signed the bill CS/HB 999 during a news conference in Apopka, recognizing gold and silver as “proper legal tender.”

“This legislation will authorize money services, businesses like check cashers or PayPal, to transmit and accept payment in gold and silver. That means these precious metals can start functioning like real currency, again, not just investment vehicles for the wealthy,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis said this legislation will protect against the declining value of the dollar while aligning with Florida’s commitment to “economic freedom.”

According to the bill, gold coins and silver coins recognized as legal tender are exempt from sales tax.
