JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Duval County School Board approved a comprehensive initiative called “Duval Reimagine,” which is aimed at reshaping the district’s approach to school infrastructure and student distribution.
The 81-page plan extends beyond immediate facility improvements, outlining a strategic approach guided by four key priorities: Enrollment and Capacity, Educational Adequacy, Financial Alignment, and Facility Condition.

Several schools across the district face timeline changes for their improvement projects. For example, San Jose Elementary School’s renovation and classroom addition project is potentially being accelerated to address overcrowding issues. Meanwhile, Brookview Elementary School’s maintenance work faces a delay, with the board proposing shifting the timeline from 2026-27 to 2029-34 due to district-wide reprioritization.
The plan introduces the possibility of boundary adjustments following school consolidations and closures. Key considerations for these changes include:
- Walkability
- Demographics
- Specialized programs
- Safety measures
