JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a quiet corner of Panama Park on Jacksonville’s Northside, the early morning calm is only interrupted by the sound of chirping birds—until a group of men arrives with purpose. Chairs unfold, tables go up, and in no time, a scene of service and support comes to life.
They call themselves the Extraordinary Men of Jax—a name that fits not just for what they do, but how they do it.
“It’s very rare to have this type of bonding with a group of men,” says President Davie Cooper. “We don’t even have to speak. We show up, look around, and just get to work. Like a well-oiled machine.”
What began as a few friends talking in the park has turned into a powerful movement—now 22 men strong—committed to mentoring, community outreach, and uplifting kids in the neighborhood they call home.
Giving big with a little
Over the past year alone, the group has handed out:
- 300+ fully stocked book bags
- Scholarships
- New pairs of sneakers
- 380 turkeys at Thanksgiving
- Over 300 bicycles and $5,000 in toys and electronics for Christmas

They’ve also distributed laptops for students going back to school—and that’s just scratching the surface.
“We started out just talking about life and the challenges we’ve faced,” one member says. “Then we decided to do something about it. And because we’re genuine friends, it never feels like work. It feels like showing up for your community—with your brothers.”

More than just meals
Every Friday afternoon, you’ll find the group back at Panama Park—not just handing out hot dogs and chips—but also sharing time and positive conversations with local youth.
“They sit and talk with us. Sometimes, it’s the only time a young person sees a positive male role model,” says Jimmie Stanford. “We want them to know: There are different ways to succeed.”
For eight years, the Extraordinary Men of Jax have been serving consistently—with their faith leading the way.
“In order for us to restore this area, we have to put our stamp on it,” a member shares. “We’ve been doing it for a long time, and we’ve been blessed to keep going.”
Before each event, the men gather in prayer, asking for protection and guidance. Their work is a testament to what’s possible when community, compassion, and consistency come together.
Congratulations to the Extraordinary Men of Jax—this month’s Positively JAX honorees.
