CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A Clay County school bus driver was injured Wednesday when a piece of wood flew off a passing work truck and struck them in the face while students were on board.
According to the Clay County School District, a school bus with students on board was driving near the intersection of Russell Road and Oak Stream Drive when a “piece of wood detached from a passing truck and struck the driver.”
The driver suffered a cut to the head and received medical attention.
None of the 22 students was injured.
“We are incredibly grateful that both our driver and the students are safe. Parents have already been notified directly. We want to thank the emergency personnel for their quick response as we cooperate fully with local law enforcement’s investigation,” the school board said in a statement to News4JAX.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
