JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 14-year-old Jacksonville boy fatally shot outside a closed Westside day care last week will be laid to rest Wednesday.

Henry Atkins' family is calling for justice after police told his mother that they suspect the shooting that killed him was accidental. None of the minors who were with him when he was shot have been charged.

Henry's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Greater New Jerusalem Baptist Church on West 6th Street in Jacksonville. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cleo Williams Burns Memorial Chapel at 3031 Moncrief Road.

Henry was dropped off at a fire station near Melvin and Ricker roads Tuesday with a gunshot wound, said Sgt. Mark Musser with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. He did not survive.

Musser said Atkins was shot behind a closed day care near Indian Lakes Drive and Ricker Road. Three minors were brought in for questioning after flagging down a passerby to take Henry to the fire station.

Henry's mother told News4Jax the teen who was holding the gun when it fired has not been arrested. The case has been referred to the State Attorney's Office for possible charges, but remains under active investigation.
