JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thirty police officers are in the second week of wearing body cameras as part of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office technical pilot program.
The officers included in the pilot program are spread across the city's six patrol and enforcement zones. Officers will wear the cameras during their on- and off-duty assignments for the next 90 days, according to JSO spokeswoman Lauri-Ellen Smith.

This test of the Axon body cameras is the first of three planned trials and evaluations.
News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith said JSO hasn't talked much about how the program is going so far is because there are too many things to look at -- including how the cameras are functioning. Smith said this is a major project and the agency is taking its time to determine results.
After months of study and a series of town hall meetings, Sheriff Mike Williams announced the JSO will eventually have body cameras assigned to all uniformed officers.
Williams is budgeting $1.3 million in his 2017-18 budget to fund the cameras, storage of the video and management of the system.
