Police said they were called about 3 p.m. June 4 to the Moncrief Village Apartments on Flynn Court and found Kenard Hendley suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. He later died at a hospital.
Witnesses told police that Finch and Hendley were among a group "shooting dice" in an apartment and that Finch became upset because he was losing money to Hendley. Witnesses said Finch pulled a pistol and pointed it at Hendley, who tried to leave the apartment. They told police that's when Finch fired a shot and hit Hendley in the back before running from the apartment.
Finch appeared Wednesday morning before a judge, and his bond was set at $900,006. He will be back in court Aug. 9.
According to records, Finch is a two-time ex-con for armed robbery and violating his probation. He was released from prison last November.
