JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A staple in Jacksonville's seafood scene for decades is closing its doors for good this weekend.
The last Gene's Seafood Restaurant in Jacksonville will close Saturday night, an employee confirmed by phone to News4Jax.

Gene's Seafood on University Boulevard in the Lakewood neighborhood has been in business for 22 years.
Many are upset the restaurant is closing.
"We are very sad to see it close because it is a great restaurant -- good food, good people, very friendly people," customer Bill Crawford said Friday. "We never got a bad meal here. We always look forward to coming here. It's just a good neighborhood restaurant."
The restaurant's owner told The Florida Times-Union it is shutting down because of rising food costs.
