Police identify man shot, killed at InTown Suites in East Arlington

2nd man found dead at a Southside Jacksonville hotel in 6 weeks

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating the shooting death of a man in an East Arlington hotel parking lot as a murder, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers were called just after 11:30 p.m. July 30 to the InTown Suites on St. Johns Bluff Road, near Atlantic Boulevard.

Police said they found a 32-year-old man who had been shot at least once in the parking lot. The man, who was identified as Trevor Neal Matthew, died, police said.

Officers have not released a description of the gunman. Detectives interviewed people at the scene and were working to get surveillance video from the area.

None of the guests or neighbors who News4Jax spoke with said they heard gunfire, but a couple staying at the hotel said they looked outside when they realized something was going on in the parking lot and saw the man's body on the ground.

"I just came over here, and I was, like, 'Oh my God.' I’ve never seen anything like that before. It scared me at first," Haley Moore said. "They left it there, and then CSI got here, and that’s when everyone went around it. So they just left it alone."

Moore said she has been staying at the hotel for about two weeks and was shocked to see the man's body.

It is unknown whether the victim was a guest at the hotel.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).

This was the second time a person was found dead at an InTown Suites on St. Johns Bluff Road this year. Less than two months ago, another man was found dead inside a room at a InTown Suites location three miles south on St. Johns Bluff near Beach Boulevard.
