St. Johns River Taxi launches sunset cruises

Guided boat trips to Jacksonville Zoo also offered

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The St. Johns River Taxi is now offering sunset cruises, as well as other types of cruises, along the river.

The inaugural cruise was held Thursday night. The River Jam Sunset Cruises will be offered from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. There will be local music acts on the boat each night.

"(There will) be different entertainers every night and give local musicians a chance to be heard and certainly great entertainment for Jacksonville," said Heather Surface of Lakeshore Marine Services.

River Quest Boat Tours also offers Eco Tours, which are narrated tours about Jacksonville, from 6 to 7 p.m. every Thursday though Sunday.

The cost for each one-hour cruise is $20 per person. Trips will depart from Friendship Park on the Southbank and the Jacksonville Landing on the Northbank in downtown.

"I love it. It's so cool," said Victoria Gregory, whose family surprised her on her birthday with a trip on the inaugural cruise.

And starting Saturday, guided boat trips to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens will also be offered. The day trips will begin every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in downtown. Then, at 3:45 p.m., the boat will depart from the zoo. Tickets cost $40 for adults and $30 for kids ages 12 and under, and include zoo admission.
