SWAT officers were called about 2:30 p.m. to Weatherwood Estates Drive, off Hooding Landing Road, after police said a suicidal man had barricaded himself inside a home.

After several hours of unsuccessful negotiations, the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Several houses in the Clearwater Creek subdivision were evacuated as a precaution.
