JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – To eat out, or stay home and cook? That is the question.
New research by the Harvard Business Review shows the number of people who enjoy cooking is declining. According to the study, 90 percent of people either hate it or are on the fence.
The research reflects the fact that people the number of people using delivery services and meal kit subscriptions is on the rise.
One of those delivery services, Uber Eats, officially launched in Jacksonville Thursday night and wants to help locals who were impacted by Hurricane Irma.
We’ve all been there before. You’re working hard at home, or at your office, you’re hungry but just don’t have time to cook or pick anything up. Well, there’s good news. You can now have food delivered to wherever you are with just a few clicks on your cellphone or computer.
Just download the Uber Eats app and hungry bellies can order from more than 100 Jacksonville-area restaurants.
People can use search filters on the app to choose the restaurant of their choice by price, delivery time, most popular, new restaurants and more. Once the order is completed, an Uber Eats driver heads to the restaurant, picks up the food and delivers it to the customer. Throughout the process, customers can track the location of their food in in real-time.
European Street Café is one of the restaurants available through Uber Eats. Not only is the owner, Andy Zarka, excited about the opportunity to partner with Uber, he’s also pleased by Uber Eats' $25,000 donation to help people and businesses affected by Hurricane Irma.
“Because of Irma, our San Marco location is going to be shut down for approximately four months, so we had about 30 employees there,” Zarka said. “The timing for Uber Eats lunch could not have been better. We’re able to ramp up our staff here to accommodate the additional businesses that order. I've got some more help in the kitchen and some more help up front just to make sure everything goes smoothly. It's great to have them on board right now.”
Uber is offering a promo code for Jacksonville eaters to celebrate the launch. You can get two orders, each with $5 off, by typing in the promo code EATSJAX in the promotion section of the app before checking out.
With a $4.99 delivery fee and an average delivery time of 35 minutes, eating at home never sounded so good.
Uber Eats will provide opportunities for people who have bikes, mopeds and those who can’t participate in the original Uber.
