ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A woman in St. Johns County came home from work on Monday evening to find her home torn apart and her belongings in shambles.

Monica Thurston said that she got back to the house she shares with Robert Mayben in St. Augustine, and while opening the garage door saw the door to the house open and a gun safe in the garage wide open.

She immediately called police who took her through the house, where whoever broke into her home had gone through all her dressers and cabinets throwing her belongings everywhere.

Going through everything Mayben and Thurston found out just how much thieves had taken from them.

Overall police say three shotguns, two rifles, a pistol with pearl grips, two flat screen TV's, 10,000 rounds of .22 ammo and an elephant gun were taken from the couple.

Detectives are still investigating what happened, but say that whoever broke into the house pried open the front and were able to make their escape without neighbors seeing.

Police say that they did get DNA samples from a lot of locations around the home, which could help them with their investigation.
