JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A mother said she spent Tuesday night at her 27-year-old son's hospital bedside after he was shot in the head earlier that afternoon near the New Town area of Jacksonville, she told News4Jax on Wednesday.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the shooting was reported about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex at the intersection of West 13th and Fairfax streets.
Almarie Doyle said Zafir Robinson, her youngest son who as shot in the head, is a father of two and a loving man.
At last check, Robinson was in critical condition at UF Health Jacksonville.
"He can move his legs but he can't move his arms," Doyle said. "We're trying to get him to open his eyes but he won't open his eyes yet," Doyle said.
Robinson's mother said she is terrified of what could happen to her son.
Police said Robinson was shot once in the head outside his apartment door. When they showed up, police said, they questioned a man who was inside the apartment. No charges have been filed.
"I want justice, and why you did it. That's the only thing I want to know: Why he did it," Doyle said.
The mother said she's fighting to remain strong, but she's not sure what will happen to her son.
"I have my whole church praying for him," Doyle said. "My family, my friends and everybody is praying for him."
