JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One of two men shot multiple times in separate shootings Monday night has died, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

The man, Maurice Amos Jr., 20, was found shot five times in his head, arms and body about 11:30 p.m. inside a home on Fernandina Avenue near Rowe Avenue. He later died at a hospital, police said.

Witnesses said that Amos was inside the home when he received a telephone call and stepped outside.

While outside, he was approached by an unknown type vehicle where he briefly spoke to the occupant(s) of this vehicle, and an unknown suspect(s) inside the vehicle shot Amos multiple times. The vehicle then drove off. Officers did not have a description of that car.

According to the police report, Amos was in possession of a stolen handgun.

The second shooting took place on Lucoma Drive just after midnight. The victim said he was walking on Lucoma when a small dark vehicle approached him and began firing. He was shot several times in the stomach. The car then left the scene. According to witnesses, there was a dispute before the shooting took place.

Detectives are now investigating both shootings.
