The presidential matchup between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump didn’t take long to take shape.
After all, no longer do you have two aging white men facing off in a bid to win the Oval Office. Now, it’s between a man who is 78 and a woman who is 59.
Of course, if Harris wins, she will make history as the first woman and first woman of color to be president. And that explains the shift in the dynamics of political rhetoric.
Sure, Trump might try to tie her to President Joe Biden’s policies. But she’s facing criticisms he never did.
And then there’s this. JD Vance angered women who don’t have children when he questioned Harris’ leadership because she does not have biological children.
Then in an interview, he said: “We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats,” and referred to them as “a bunch of childless cat ladies.”
In fact, even House Speaker Mike Johnson and some other Republicans are saying some things are off-limits. They are trying to quash some types of attacks against Trump’s Democratic opponent.
In the meantime, Trump is trying to out-attack Harris as her campaign heats up. For the Trump campaign, it’s not all that different than the 2016 playbook against Hillary Clinton.
And the Harris camp is going back to oldies but goodies as well with rhetoric hearkening back to 2020.
What’s old is new again -- and this is only the beginning.
Of course, nothing’s conventional when it comes to the political conventions this election cycle.
The Dems are moving to secure Harris’ nomination by a virtual vote before anyone virtually convenes in the Windy City.
There’s also new intrigue in the Veep-stakes.
In some corners, there is speculation that Trump could move to replace Vance because some people aren’t happy with his performance. His possible reasoning? Well, the Dems did it!
And Harris is vetting her running mate choices. Insiders say Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro would bring a lot to the ticket and the polls in November.
Of course, there are some other choices in the running as well. A decision might come as early as this week.
