JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Acting on a tip in an unsolved hit-and-run crash that killed three people, officers from the Jacksonville and Nassau County sheriff's offices searched a lake Thursday off U.S. 1 just north of the Duval-Nassau county line, but didn't find what they were looking for.
News4Jax was told that police might be looking for the vehicle that caused a March 2016 crash on Duval Station Road at North Main Street that killed Kyle Cassani, 23, Allison Bushey, 21, and her boyfriend, Curtis Carlisle, 24.
Police said a silver sedan hit the BMW in which the three people were riding, causing it to crash into a tree and burst into flames.
A woman who owns a house on the lake said police and deputies arrived and began to search the water about 10 a.m. Thursday.
Jennifer Carlisle, whose son was killed in the crash, heard about the search and rushed to the scene hoping for some information.
"I learned that there were two tips called in today by separate people that police felt were very strong and they were really hoping to be able to resolve this for us today," Carlisle said.
But after about three hours, police left without finding anything, leaving Carlisle with mixed emotions.
"I didn't really want to see the car come out of the pond," she said. "It would've been very heartbreaking to see the car that ended our sons' lives and Allison's, but I do want this resolved."
A memorial with three crosses, flowers and balloons remains where the crash occurred.
Police believe that the suspect vehicle is a silver Ford Fusion. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
