JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The south side of the Acosta Bridge reopened Thursday night after being closed by police and fire rescue units for over six hours.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office had patrol cars and Jacksonville Fire Rescue had fire trucks at the top of the bridge, and all the eastbound lanes of the Acosta Expressway were shut down.

Police said a distraught woman at the top of the bridge was "precariously" sitting on the wrong side of the railing. SWAT officers were called to the scene and tried to coax the woman back across the railing, Public Information Officer Christian Hancock said.
Police were first called about the woman at 1:20 p.m. Hancock said two JSO boats and one Jacksonville Fire Rescue boat were in the water under the bridge.
The south side of the bridge remained closed until about 7:30 p.m., after officers were able to pull the woman off the railing and onto the bridge, police said.
She was taken to the hospital as precautionary measure, Hancock said.
Traffic on Jefferson Street southbound was diverted at Water Street.
