JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – At least two UPS employees have pleaded guilty to several fraud charges after scamming truck drivers into delivering goods to made-up addresses, according to federal charging documents.
Records show employees had been stealing electronic items such as cellphones and iPods by having other employees drop the packages off unknowingly at fake addresses around town. UPS management became aware of the thefts and alerted federal investigators.
Once the items were delivered, the scammers, ex-employees Jaquan Sibley, 25, and Henry Jones (age not released) would show up after work and collect the packages for personal use, according to documents.
As a result of the scheme, federal Investigators said tens of thousands of dollars of goods were being stolen from the UPS distribution center in Jacksonville. Records show Sibley and Jones took over $50,000 worth of items.
Sibley and Jones pleaded guilty to the several fraud charges and are scheduled to be sentenced in January.
Another man, Antonio Walker (age not released), has been charged in the case and is awaiting trial.
Walker and Sibley’s attorney has not returned a request for comment.
