Sergeant Smith from South Georgia was deployed on a two-week mission to Guam. She was supporting the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) that provides no-cost medical, dental and optometry care to people who need it.
While there, a stray dog befriended her and won over her heart. She named the dog Socks because it looks like she is wearing two socks on her front paws.

Guam has a large stray dog population and traps were set out to catch Socks. Smith couldn’t let that happen and wants to adopt her new furry friend.
HELP: Bring Socks to her forever home in Georgia
The trouble is that getting dogs off the island is extremely difficult and expensive.
United Airlines, the only domestic airline in Guam, is unable to fly her. Therefore, she will need to travel by charter plane. The estimated cost of the charter flight to her new home is $5,000.
Sergeant Smith needs help bringing Socks home to South Georgia and a GoFundMe has been set up to help her cover the expenses.
All contributions will be used for Socks’ charter flight, which includes boarding, a crate, and plane fare through Island Pet Movers.
