With kitten season in full swing, the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is putting out an urgent call for foster families to care for a growing influx of young felines.
As part of the Passion 4 Pets campaign, the organization highlighted its need during The Morning Show, spotlighting adoptable animals across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
On Wednesday, JHS introduced viewers to “Jungle Jim,” a calm, bright-eyed kitten in need of a foster family.
“This is the time of year when all of our cat friends out in the community decide to have some fun — and the kittens pop off,” said a JHS spokesperson. “There is definitely a kitten for everybody. Whether you’re looking for a hands-on experience or a more laid-back companion, fostering is flexible and free.”

The fostering process is straightforward. Interested individuals can visit JHS, express their desire to foster, and the shelter provides everything needed — from food to medical care. While fostering may seem demanding, JHS staff reassured the public that kittens mature quickly and adapt well with a bit of attention and care.
JHS also frequently runs promotions to encourage adoptions, including discounts and even “BOGO” (buy one, get one free) offers when the shelter reaches capacity.
Beyond fostering and adoption, JHS offers unique programs for community involvement. Visitors, including children, can read to dogs to help socialize the animals, making them more adoptable.
“Even if the goal is for them to find a forever home, while they’re here, they’re family,” the spokesperson emphasized.
Those interested in adopting can browse animals in real-time at jaxhumane.org/adopt, where adoptable animals are updated constantly. With adoptions on a first-come, first-served basis, many eager adopters monitor the site closely to find their perfect pet.
As the event continues, each featured pet, including Jungle Jim and a dog named Penelope, is up for adoption.
With love, time, and a little space, anyone can help provide a safe haven for animals in need this season.
