JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Highlighting the incredible service from our community members is something we never get tired of doing.

In a heartwarming act of kindness, the dedicated girls of Junior Girl Scout Troop 62644 in Jacksonville made a big impact on their community with their recent Soles4Souls shoe drive.

Soles4Souls is a non-profit organization that aims to provide relief, fight poverty, and create opportunities for individuals by transforming unwanted shoes and clothing into practical resources.

Troop 62644 members collected more than 100 pairs of new and gently used shoes in September, which were then donated to families in need, and received recognition from the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council on “Troop Tuesday.” Girl Scout troops around America aim to create positive change, and the latest efforts from Troop 62644 are an example of how small acts of service can create ripples of change in the community.

Leslie Petry, whose daughter is a part of the troop, told News4JAX that a huge part of their success is credited to their troop leader, and Assistant Principal at Cornerstone Christian School, Sabra Selling. Petry said Selling goes above and beyond to guide and inspire the girls.

“Her dedication to their growth and empowerment is truly extraordinary,” Petry said. “Despite her busy schedule, she ensures that the girls have meaningful experiences like the “Soles4Souls” project, teaching them the importance of giving back. She has them earning badges or doing activities every Tuesday and they plan events and community outreach throughout the year.”

Petry also told News4JAX about the Girl Scouts program and why it means so much to her and her daughter.

“Girl Scouts is so wonderful for learning responsibility and how to help the community and others,” Petry said. “So many great skills learned! This is my daughter’s third year and the bonds she has made and life skills she has learned thus far are way more than I could have asked for! My daughter and I look forward to scouts each week.”

The troop’s achievement is a testament to their commitment and hard work. We can’t wait to see what these amazing girls accomplish next!
