The countdown is on, it’s FOUR days until Christmas but if you find yourself in need of a couple more things, think outside the “big” box stores and try finding gifts from the thrift. Showing us some of her finds to inspire us to try out luck at scoring some festive and frugal AND sustaintable gift ideas is Liz Morgan with Goodwill.
2. Holiday Foods and Baked Goods. Whether you make them yourself or pick them up from the grocery store, holiday treats are always a safe bet for a festive container found at the thrift store, like these.
3. One-Of-A-Kind Candles. If you’ve got the time and the creative spirit, you can make vintage, one-of-a-kind candles using vessels found at thrift stores like Goodwill. Look for pretty glass bowls, tea cups and you can pick up candle making kits that have the wicks, wax and everything you need at Amazon or craft supply store like Michael’s.
4. Build Bouquets. Look up “book bouquets” DIY and you’ll find really fun tutorials on how to package up great reads with some fresh flowers. Find some titles you think they’ll like at Goodwill, some fresh flowers at Trader Joe’s and a couple items from the craft store and wrap up a bouquet of books. OR use the fresh flowers to create a fun, affordable arrangement using a vase you found at the thrift.
5. Frame It. Picture frames are always something you can find at a thrift store – some new, some gently used. One way to repurpose a small frame is to print out or find a photo of someone your gift recipient loves – Taylor Swift, a TV show, etc – and add some ribbon and voila, you’ve got an ornament. You can also use the frames as intended and pop in a photo to gift them.
6. Feel Great about Shopping Goodwill. Every item you buy at Goodwill saves millions of pounds from landfills, and gives back by providing job training for your neighbors.
