Love don’t cost a thing | thrifty ways to save this Valentine’s day

Valentine’s Day is coming up, a day to show your love for people in your life in all kinds of ways. If you have lots of affection but not loads of cash, Liz Morgan is here to show some sustainable and affordable gift ideas using thrifted items.

1. Traditional Take. What the most traditional Valentine’s Day gift? Flowers. Get personal AND pinch some pennies by making your own. Vases are something you can always count on finding at the thrift store. Look for styles that catch your eye, and test them for cracks when you get home. If you find cracks, if you’re not using a clear vases you can use Ziploc bag to house your stems and avoid leaks. Trader Joe’s has gorgeous fresh flowers so you can make a beautiful presentation for $20 or less.

2. Dreamy Décor. If you are hosting a Galentine’s, family or other get together you can find great décor at the thrift. Shop by color – dreamy shades of pink, red, lavender all go together.

3. One & Only. Your Valentine is your one and only, and thrifting can turn up unique, one-of-a-kind gifts you can’t find anywhere else. (art, special interest)

4. Dress You Up In My Love. If you want to show some Valentine’s spirit, you can shop sustainably at the thrift. Some stores sort their clothing by color – so head straight for hot reds and pinks and dig for design treasure.

5. Thrifted Gifts. This is also a great way to get the kids involved, if they want to create a Valentine’s Day gift for parents, siblings, grandparents. Some fabulous and frugal ideas that you can almost always count on from the thrift include picture frames, with treasured memories; a beautiful plate or cake holder for home baked goods, books for the book lover and more.
