2 teams from Naval Station Mayport’s Oasis Galley put their best dishes to the test on River City Live

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two teams from the Oasis Galley, who serve sailors at Naval Station Mayport, faced off in the River City kitchen on Wednesday!

Dawson Hunter & Daniel Gonzales took on Lawrence Parks & Ratu Rokotavaga as they shared the dishes they say Mayport sailors love the most.

Hunter and Gonzales made grilled chicken with rice pilaf and grilled zucchini and squash.

“People love to get fit on the ship so people want to be able to eat a lot of protein,” Gonzales said.

Parks and Rokotavaga made Swiss steak with rosemary roasted potatoes and green beans with roasted tomatoes.

(Watch the video above for more details on the two dishes)

Parks said he’d wanted to join the Navy since he was a kid, but he never thought he’d end up as a chef.

“I just wanted to serve my country and do something with my life,” Parks said.

Parks said they feed about 500 sailors a day right now with the ships in port.
