Ephraim Walker, co-founder of Heaven’s Oven Catering, stopped by River City Live on Wednesday and warmed Rance up with some smashed burgers.
Heaven’s Oven offers on-site cooking for everything from birthday parties to weddings to summer camps and has been servicing Jacksonville as a venue for over 10 years.
Walker’s mother, Brenda Louise Bryant, co-owns the company and is a professional chef who graduated from Jacksonville University with a master’s in culinary arts.
“I get all my skills from her,” said Walker.
But his inspiration for his popular smashed burgers came from fellow chefs, he said.
“I was like, ‘I got to do this. I’ve got to introduce this to Jacksonville,’” Walker said. “I invested in a grill, and here we are.”
A little over a year ago Walker started Heavens Oven Burger Smashed (or H.O.B.S.) in his front yard, serving smashed burgers, wings and fries.
Walker said he uses premium, locally sourced beef and the burger meat is a combination of brisket, short rib and sirloin.
But he also offers vegan options.
“We do it all,” Walker said.
Walker also serves in local public and private schools, Boys and Girls Club, Girls Inc., PAL and Kids Hope Alliance.
