About LCDR Monica Borz
Soar with The Blue Angels in a brand-new documentary featuring never-before-seen footage that chronicles a year with the Navy’s elite Flight Demonstration Squadron—from selection through the challenging training and demanding show season—showcasing the extraordinary teamwork, passion, and pride that fuels America’s best, the Blue Angels.
Driven by her passion for excellence, LCDR Monica Borza has dedicated her craft to helping others. Her ability to effectively communicate, empathize, and solve problems has laid the groundwork for her incredible journey as a physician in the Navy.
Monica is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and loved growing up in a beach town with Navy fighter jets flying over her childhood home every day. As a young adult, she attended Virginia Tech and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Her accomplishments at Virginia Tech earned her induction into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa society.
Following college, she earned a Health Professions Scholarship through the US Navy to attend the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine where she obtained her medical degree in 2016. After completing a transitional-year internship, she was accepted to the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida and earned her Naval Flight Surgeon wings in 2018. Monica then reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314, “Black Knights,” at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California where she served as the Flight Surgeon from 2018 to 2020.
Following her first tour in the fleet, Monica was hand-selected to represent the 800,000 men and women of the US Navy and Marine Corps and became the fourth female physician in history to serve as the Flight Surgeon for the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron (Blue Angels). From 2020 to 2022 she directly supported over 6,000 flight hours that resulted in 560 flight demonstrations at 68 cities across the United States and Canada. In addition to her duties, she visited over 40 hospitals and schools to advance the public perception of naval service and inspire future generations. Her exceptional performance and impressive devotion to duty afforded her the highest recognition by the Meritorious Service Medal.
Currently, she is a Dermatology resident at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, California. She is a lover of fitness, enjoys time outdoors, and cherishes moments with her family. The biggest blessing in her life is her special needs brother Michael John, who inspires her every day to live life to its fullest potential.
