Mompreneur Marketplace: Empowerment Resources, Inc.

Founded in 2002 and incorporated in 2003 by executive director Elexia Coleman-Moss, Empowerment Resources, Inc. (ERI) is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon moving to the community in 2001, Coleman-Moss identified a need for gender-specific programming for at-risk girls in the area. After understanding the challenges faced by local girls and rallying community support, Coleman-Moss launched a pilot “rites-of-passage” program named Journey Into Womanhood.

In 2006, ERI broadened its offerings to include Life Skills Workshops and Parenting Education Seminars, which are provided in schools, churches, recreational facilities, and other community spaces. This approach allows ERI to effectively “meet people where they are.”

The mission of ERI is to strengthen children and families, empowering them to become successful leaders in their communities today and ensure a better tomorrow.
