Pawsing For Pets: St. Augustine Humane wants to help Sookie find her fur-ever home

Sookie, a 13-year-old dog that was left at a shelter eight months ago, does not move around as fast as she once did due to arthritis in her back and legs, but she still has the spirit of a warrior.

Sookie has fought and won battles with kidney disease, hypertension, malnourishment and medical neglect. She is house-trained, cat friendly, and has been described by her caretakers at Swamp Haven as a “hungry house plant that likes to snuggle.”

Sookie has had every senior test imaginable and is ready to go to a forever home.

St. Augustine Humane Society’s task this week is to help find a forever home for this wonderful senior lady.

SAHS is also trying to bring awareness to the work being done by Swamp Haven to find forever homes for Sookie and for their other Swampies.

Swamp Haven is a rescue group that advocates for shelter dogs that need forever homes.

Sookie is currently being fostered by the wonderful folks at Swamp Haven.

Sookie is also a SAHS calendar dog and will be featured in the 2025 edition of the St. Augustine Humane Society’s annual calendar.

St. Augustine Humane Society is reaching out to the community trying to help find a forever home for Sookie.
