River City Roundup returns: A Caribbean Carnival, Arboretum upgrades, 1950s relationship advice & more

The best from River City Live this week! (WJXT)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hey everyone! It’s been too long since we’ve offered you a roundup of our favorite River City Live content from the week -- so we’ve got some bonuses for you today!

From a sneak peek at Saturday’s Caribbean Carnival to some 1950s relationship advice that had Jana steaming, it was a full week of fun on River City Live!

In case you missed any of it, here are some of our favorite segments from the week:

Carnival culture 🎉

The Jacksonville Caribbean Carnival is from 12-9 p.m. Saturday at Metropolitan Park with a parade at noon filled with extravagant costumes.

Watch the video below for a taste of what you’ll see:

Holiday help (yes, already!) 🎄

The Jacksonville Arboretum “elves” are already hard at work to prep for this year’s holiday display. Yes, it’s still August, but it’s never too early! And they could use your help.

Check out Rance’s visit below to see some of the recently added upgrades to the arboretum:

Sweet Sookie 🐾

Sookie, a 13-year-old dog that was left at a shelter eight months ago, has fought and won battles with kidney disease, hypertension, malnourishment and medical neglect and still has the spirit of a warrior.

That’s so 1950s 👠

Jana and Rance had some fun on River City Plus this week going over a pair of articles from the 1950s that offered relationship advice.

The first was “129 Ways to Get A Husband.” I think my favorite was “Dropping the handkerchief still works.” It’s the original “bend and snap” from Legally Blonde!

Then Jana got riled up with some of the advice in “The Good Wife’s Guide” from a May 13, 1955, edition of Housekeeping Monthly.

“You have no right to question him,” really got her going!

Paddling with purpose 🛶

This week, we met the Mammoglams, a team of Dragon Boat paddlers with a purpose: supporting each other as breast cancer survivors.
