As students gear up for the new school year, focusing on health is just as important as stocking up on supplies. Packing a healthy back-to-school lunchbox is a great way to help ensure your child gets the nutrition they need to stay focused and energized throughout the school day. Registered Dietitian Mia Syn has tips on how to pack a healthy lunchbox plus some tasty combinations.

Healthy lunchbox formula: Build a nutritious and balanced lunchbox by including each of the food groups - fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy.

Lunch box 1: fruit and veggie applesauce, cheese and homemade “uncrustable” with whole grain bread, low sugar jam and unsweetened nut butter.

Lunch box 2: chickpea pasta with hidden veggie pasta sauce and melted olive oil cheese, low sugar juice box and Greek yogurt.

Lunch box 3: grilled cheese on whole grain bread, fruit snack and sliced veggies.

Lunch box 4: turkey veggie roll-up on whole grain wrap and Greek yogurt fruit drink.
