Florida nonprofit **904WARD** has been actively participating in events surrounding Banned Books Week, shining a light on the importance of free access to literature and diverse voices. Here’s a closer look at their impactful initiatives:
Read in Color Initiative
In partnership with **Little Free Library**, 904WARD launched the **Read in Color** program, a celebration of diverse stories. The event featured the installation of a **Little Free Diverse Library**, a panel discussion, and a vibrant community celebration. Attendees enjoyed book readings, face painting, book giveaways, and the chance to sign up for library cards, all while embracing the power of inclusion through literature.
Rally to End Book Bans
Joining forces with like-minded organizations, 904WARD participated in a rally at the **Duval County Public Schools** headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, advocating for an end to book bans across the state. Groups such as **Public School Defenders Duval**, **Florida Freedom to Read**, **Families for Strong Public Schools**, **Rebel Readers**, **Equality Florida**, and **Moms Rising** stood alongside 904WARD, raising their voices for literary freedom.
Little Free Libraries Filled with Banned Books

Supported by publishing giants **HarperCollins** and **Penguin Random House**, this initiative has earned significant recognition, winning both an **Anthem Award** and a **Shorty Award** for its commitment to literacy and diversity.
