Will part of Florida be underwater in the near future? Scientists, leaders developing solutions to fight back

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Will part of Florida be underwater in the near future? Is the future of the Sunshine State at risk?

Climate researchers are raising the alarm about sea level rise, tidal flooding, and extreme rain.

A new report from Virginia Tech predicted more than half a million people across the U.S. could be affected by sea level rise by 2050 and the Jacksonville area makes the high-risk list.

However, it seems Miami is seeing the most extreme effects already.

As part of our special series Solutionaries, where we look for potential solutions to common problems. Scientists at Florida International University’s Sea Level Solutions Lab and leaders in Broward County weighed in on making a positive impact on a growing problem.
