People taking a fall result in 3 million emergency room visits and 800,000 serious injuries requiring hospitalization each year in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

One in four people over the age of 65 fall each year, and they are at greater risk for taking a spill.

“Balance is a complex skill that has to be developed over time,” Cathcart said. “As we get older, we have to practice it regularly to maintain it. Losing this skill can be very worrisome to some individuals.”
