ORANGE PARK, Fla. – The tables have turned for the Oakleaf High School football team.
Just three years removed from a winless season in 2011, the Knights defeated visiting Fletcher 28-7 Friday night to finish undefeated in District 3-7A and claim the program's first district title.
"Tonight we were worried we'd be neutralized in the trenches. We were worried coming in tonight," coach Derek Chipoletti said. "But we got weapons all over the place, and we're going to utilize them when we need to."
One of those weapons was sophomore quarterback Jordan Johnson. He threw for one score and rushed for another for the Knights (9-0, 4-0).
Johnson tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to junior Marcus Johnson in the second quarter to tie the game at 7. In the second quarter, Jordan Johnson powered in on a QB sneak to pad Oakleaf's lead to 21-7.
Jordan Johnson finished 15 of 26 for 242 yards, and Marcus Johnson had seven catches for 119 yards.
The Knights' defense also showed some firepower Friday with a pair of pick-6 plays.
Junior Tyrell Brown returned an interception 57 yards for a score -- just over a minute after Johnson's second-quarter TD pass.
Senior Sean Pruitt added some cushion for the Knights with another pick 6 late in the fourth quarter. He reeled in a deflected pass and returned it 8 yards.
Despite the two pick-6 plays, Fletcher junior Alec Adamec also had a touchdown to open the game, scoring on a 1-yard QB sneak to put the Senators (5-4, 2-2) on the board first.
