JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jaguars defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was cited for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop early Wednesday morning by Atlantic Beach police.
According to the incident report, Dareus was pulled over just before 2 a.m. on Atlantic Boulevard for speeding. An officer wrote in the report that the vehicle was going about 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The officer noted that a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle, and a search turned up two joints and a marijuana grinder, the report shows.
The team on Friday released a statement on the incident, saying, "The Jaguars are aware of a citation involving DT Marcell Dareus. The matter will be handled internally."
Neither Dareus nor the three passengers in the vehicle took responsibility for the marijuana or the marijuana grinder that were found.
Dareus was issued a notice to appear for misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana under 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. The incident report noted that Dareus got a verbal warning for speeding.
Dareus has six tackles this season for the Jaguars.
