JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Remember that social media drive by Jaguars fans to buy a touchscreen toaster off Trevor Lawrence’s wedding registry?

Well, that Revolution Cooking high tech toaster wound up netting $54,938 for local charities.

You read that right.

What began as somewhat of a Jaguars Twitter gesture — the fanbase has been particularly passionate about causes it gets behind — morphed into a massive win for three local charities.

Eric Dillard, who initiated the registry effort, tweeted out that total on Friday morning. Lawrence was appreciative of the hard work and donations, tweeting his support at Dillard on Friday.

“Thanks for getting it started. So cool”

How did it happen?

Dillard found Lawrence and Marissa Mowry’s wedding registry and located two of the higher priced items on it. Local attorney John Phillips bought the $299 toaster. Jaguars Twitter bought him a Dyson vacuum. But donations continued to pour in.

Jaguars fans wound up donating $11,203 to the Lawrence registry fund.

When Lawrence heard about the effort, he thanked Jaguars fans and promised a donation of his own — a $20,000 donation. Revolution Cooking, which makes that high tech toaster that sparked all of this, contributed $5,000.

Those funds were split three ways, with $18,734 going to Feeding Northeast Florida, and $8,734 each to K9s for Warriors and 5 Star Veterans Center. Golfer Billy Horschel decided to match the amount donated by Feeding Northeast Florida.

Dillard has sparked a couple other prominent social media campaigns this year. One brought in more than $14,000 in book donations to Brookview Elementary School. Another effort to raise funds for the old historic Stanton building surpassed more than $5,000 in a number of days.
