JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars are making moves in free agency already.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars intend to sign Washington offensive guard Brandon Scherff. The signing can’t be announced until the NFL’s new league year begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Upgrading the offensive line was a point of emphasis after an uneven 2021 season protecting Trevor Lawrence. Scherff was the top guard on the market. He’ll slide into the right guard position next to presumptive right tackle Jawaan Taylor.

ESPN had Scherff ranked as the No. 6 available free agent on the market.

Scherff, 30, is a five-time Pro Bowl selection and was an All-Pro in 2020. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound player was franchise tagged the last two seasons by Washington. The knock on Scherff is his injury history. He’s played a full season just twice in his seven seasons in the league, his first two in 2015-16.
