News4JAX Super 6 volleyball: Bolles, Trinity Christian move up in rankings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4Jax Super 6 high school volleyball rankings will be published each Wednesday during the regular season. Records are through Sept. 27 games.

Rank, Previous, School, Record, Classification

1. (1) Ponte Vedra (9-3, Class 6A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Berkeley Prep, Bishop Gorman (Nevada), Harvest, Providence, Ridgeview, Winter Park.

Glance: The Sharks played just once since our last Super 6, a sweep of Harvest on Tuesday night in a match honoring their four seniors — Priya Rajhansa, Ava-Grace Redick, Jessica Shattles and Zeta Washington. Shattles reached a milestone in the win, 2,500 career assists. The Sharks next face Middleburg on Oct. 4.

2. (3) Trinity Christian (15-3, Class 3A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Bolles, Buchholz, Holy Trinity Episcopal, Lyman, Middleburg, Providence, Ridgeview, The Rock, Vero Beach.

Glance: The Conquerors went 2-0 since our last Super 6, with wins over Yulee and a solid Middleburg. They’ve won three straight. They’ve got Fleming Island and Harvest up next on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Amaria King is closing in on the 200-kill mark (193). Avery Haney (112) and Ali Haney (103) have also surpassed the 100-kill barrier. lead the Conquerors at the net. Taylor Teaman (199 digs), Ariel Ross (256 assists) and Mikayla Markham (208 assists) are among the leaders in those categories. The Conquerors remain positioned well in FHSAA volleyball rankings, still in second place in the region behind Ocala Trinity Catholic. They are ranked seventh in Class 3A.

3. (2) Bishop Kenny (10-3, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Bolles, Canterbury, Lakeland, Middleburg, Nease, Providence.

Glance: Kenny saw its seven-match winning streak end with a 3-2 loss to Ridgeview last week. The Crusaders are off until Oct. 4 when it hosts Episcopal followed by arguably the area’s best volleyball atmosphere and rivalry with a visit to Bolles on Thursday. Allison Cavanagh is up to 129 kills on the year. Claudia Stockard has 111 kills. Sarah Seabrooke (181 digs) and Emma Milton (122 digs) are tops in digs. Kenny remains No. 1 in Region 1 in the FHSAA points rankings, leading Beachside and Bolles, who rank No. 2 and 3, respectively, in that region.

4. (T6) Bolles (16-5, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Baker County, Creekside, Effingham County (Ga.), Harvest Community, Keystone Heights, The Rock, Ridgeview (twice), Tocoi Creek.

Glance: The Bulldogs went 6-1 since our last Super 6, an excellent showing at its own Elise Bush Invitational. Bolles’ lone loss came to a very strong Jupiter. It returned to regular action Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over Creekside. One of the best showdowns of the season comes on Oct. 6 with a home game against No. 3 Kenny. Grace Albaugh remains one of the area’s top players. Bella Bergeron surpassed the 100-kill mark in the tournament. Anika Pillai, Gracie Arnett and Penelope Kavalieros are all over the 100-dig mark after last week.

5. (4) Bartram Trail (13-7, Class 7A)

Notable wins: Arnold, Beachside, Creekside (twice), Jupiter, Yulee.

Glance: The Bears went 4-2 since our last Super 6. They beat Episcopal, Jupiter, St. Augustine and Beachside. They lost to Middleburg and Jupiter, both in the Elise Bush Invitational. Jenna Otts continued her stellar career, moving into second place in program history with 1,934 hitting attempts. She’s up to 857 career kills and rapidly closing in on 1,000. Otts does more than hit, though. She had a sizzling night at the service line in the win over Beachside (15 aces). Lily Delamielleure follows Otts with 118 kills. Morgan Langley (230 digs), Abigail Johnson (275 assists) and Sydney Lewis (317 assists, 195 digs, 54 aces) also power the Bears. Bartram ranks eighth in Region 1-7A in the latest FHSAA points standings.

T6. (T6) Beachside (12-2, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast (twice), Fernandina Beach, Matanzas, Stanton, Tocoi Creek, Williston.

Glance: The Barracudas saw their eight-match winning streak end, going 1-1 since our last Super 6, beating Atlantic Coast and then losing to Bartram Trail. I considered swapping out Beachside for Ridgeview here but kept the Barracudas in. Adriana Jeanpierre (137 kills) and Laney Lipovetsky (117 kills) give Beachside a strong attack. Macey Williams (168 digs) and Erica Duffy (231 assists) have led the Barracudas this season. Beachside remains No. 2 behind Bishop Kenny in the Region 1-4A points rankings.

T6. (5) Creekside (11-5, Class 7A)

Notable wins: Buchholz, Holy Trinity Episcopal, Middleburg, Nease, Providence, St. Augustine, Tocoi Creek, Trinity Christian.

Glance: A 1-1 week since our last Super 6, with a win over Providence and a loss to Bolles. The Knights are No. 6 in the Region 1-7A points rankings. Killian Burnett (105 kills) and Allison Green (99 kills) have led Creekside at the net. Vivi Vasquez (275 digs) and Tyler Patterson (428 assists) keep things rolling on defense and moving the offense.
