Rank, Previous, School, Record, Classification

1. (NR) Raines (8-2, Class 4A)

Notable wins: First Coast, Godby, Mandarin, Providence, Ribault.

Glance: We had a No. 6 to the top spot last week (Providence) and now we have an unranked to the top spot. What a start for the Vikings under new coach Torien Moore. The Vikings have won six straight, including major Ws since our last Super 6. Raines beat rival Ribault (69-59) and then beat the previous No. 1 Stallions, 62-54. I saw a locker room video of a speech Moore gave his team before a game last week and it’s simple to see how he’s got the Vikings dialed in and believing. That win over Providence ended a 38-game winning streak the Stallions had against local teams.

2. (1) Providence (6-4, Class 3A)

Notable win: Episcopal, Mater Lakes Academy, Oakleaf, Paxon, Villages Charter.

Glance: The Stallions went 1-1 since our last Super 6, a loss to Raines (62-54) and a romp (66-22) over Sandalwood. The loss first loss to a team from the area since a 53-48 defeat to Ponte Vedra on Dec. 7, 2021. That streak was 38 games! Chris Arias (14.5 ppg), David Fonville (12.3 ppg), Caleb McAbee (11.8 ppg) and Brady Patterson (9.6 ppg) lead the Stallions. Thought about moving Providence down farther but it has convincing wins recently over Episcopal, Oakleaf and Paxon.

3. (2) Episcopal (8-1, Class 3A)

Notable wins: Fletcher, Impact Christian, Lowndes (Ga.), NFEI, Munroe.

Glance: The Eagles haven’t played since our last Super 6, but return to action on Thursday (Father Lopez) and Friday (Gateway).

4. (3) Paxon (8-2, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Beachside, Keenan (SC), Nease, Ponte Vedra, Ribault, University Christian.

Glance: The Golden Eagles lost to Jackson (54-49) since our last Super 6 but I didn’t want to penalize them that much. Paxon has quality Ws thus far, with its only other loss to Providence.

5. (NR) Jackson (6-3, Class 4A)

Notable win: Godby, Riverside, Sandalwood, San Jose Prep.

Glance: The Tigers jump ahead of Ribault (despite a 48-45 loss to the Trojans last week) on the strength of their win over Paxon. Jackson has a 59-56 loss to Creekside and a 53-52 OT loss to an 8-2 Dougherty (Ga.). They take Oakleaf’s spot in the rankings this week.

6. (5) Ribault (6-3, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Jackson, Riverside, San Jose Prep.

Glance: A 1-1 week for Ribault, which lost to Raines and beat San Jose Prep. Tournament time arrives Thursday against Lake Wales. G Caleb Williams is averaging 22.7 ppg to lead the Trojans.
