JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Josh Allen’s record season continues with the Jaguars.
The fifth-year edge rusher set the single-season record for sacks when he brought Bryce Young down just before halftime in Sunday’s Week 17 26-0 romp over Carolina.

Allen sacked Young earlier in the quarter to tie Calais Campbell’s 2017 record (14.5). He broke it not long after that, drilling Young on a third down play at the two-minute warning to set the record. He added his third sack in the second half. For Allen, it continues his career-best season. He had 10.5 as a rookie alongside Campbell but slipped to 2.5 in an injury-shortened 2020 season. Allen has more sacks this year (16.5) than he had in 2021 and ‘22 combined (14.5).
“It’s huge. He texted me the other day, “go break the record.” And that’s one thing, record’s are meant to be broken,” Allen said of Campbell. “I can’t wait for somebody to break my record. I had a record in college. They broke that record. And I believe Tre (OLB Travon Walker) will break this record. For me to be in the history books, it’s a huge — I’m a legacy type of guy, I want to leave a legacy everywhere I go. This is a huge accomplishment for myself, the team and for my family as well. Man, I didn’t do it by myself, first and foremost. So shout-out to everybody who was a part of it.”
Allen bet on himself in the offseason, playing on the fifth-year player option and parlaying that into what should be a record-setting contract or the franchise tag. He’s been one of the league’s best at creating pressures, too. Allen ranks second in the NFL to Dallas’ Micah Parsons on quarterback pressures.
