Rank, Previous, School, Record, Classification

1. (1) Jackson (13-3, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Creekside, Gainesville, Gibbs, Godby, Mainland, Raines, Ribault, Riverside, Sandalwood, Santa Fe Catholic, San Jose Prep.

Glance: The Tigers are sizzling. Jackson picked up two of its biggest wins of the season since our last Super 6, beating a 12-3 St. Petersburg Gibbs (52-48) and a 10-4 Mainland (46-42). During its current eight-game winning streak, Jackson has beaten eight teams with records above .500. James Collins has his team in midseason form coming out of the holiday break.

2. (2) Providence (11-5, Class 3A)

Notable win: Episcopal, Mater Lakes Academy, Lake Highland Prep, Oakleaf, Paxon, Rockledge, Shabach Christian Academy (Maryland), Villages Charter, Windermere.

Glance: The Stallions beat a 10-5 Rockledge (62-54) since our last Super 6. The schedule has been solid as expected for coach Jim Martin’s Providence team. The Stallions’ schedule has been the area’s most challenging. Riverside on Friday and Bishop Snyder on Tuesday are the next games in the queue. Chris Arias (14.3 ppg), Caleb McAbee (11.5 ppg) and Brady Patterson (10.8 ppg) and David Fonville (9.7 ppg) are leading the Stallions.

3. (3) Episcopal (13-2, Class 3A)

Notable wins: Bolles, Father Lopez, Fletcher, Gateway, Impact Christian, Lowndes (Ga.), NFEI, South Point (NC), Munroe.

Glance: The Eagles handled a strong Bolles team (58-38) since our last Super 6. Up next are Palm Beach Lakes (Friday) and Tocoi Creek (Monday). Episcopal’s losses are to 11-4 Marvin Ridge (NC) and No. 2 Providence.

4. (4) Raines (14-4, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Auburn (Virginia), Fernandina Beach, First Coast (twice), Godby, Mandarin, Providence, Ribault.

Glance: Three easy wins for the Vikings since our last check in. Raines romped to wins over Westside (82-68), Gainesville Eastside (53-46) and Fernandina Beach (59-42). The Pirates were the best win of those three. They’re back in tournament action Saturday and Monday, and could exit MLK showdowns on a five-game winning streak.

5. (5) Paxon (13-2, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Beachside, Keenan (SC), Nease, Ponte Vedra, Ribault, Savannah, Stanton, Toombs County (Georgia).

Glance: The Golden Eagles have won five straight games, with a quality W over Savannah (62-43) the latest in that streak. Paxon’s losses are to teams ahead of it in the Super 6, No. 1 Jackson and No. 2 Providence.

6. (NR) Oakleaf (10-4, Class 6A)

Notable wins: Clay, Gibbs, NFEI, Ribault, St. Augustine

Glance: The Knights have turned things around since back-to-back losses to Camden County and Leesburg, ripping off four consecutive wins. They edged St. Augustine (38-37) and a quality Gibbs team (62-60), the latter win enough to bump them over Ribault and into the Super 6. Bartram Trail and Clay are up next this week. The Knights and Ribault are similar to me for this spot, but I leaned towards Oakleaf in the mix in this week’s rankings.

Dropped out

Ribault (11-5, Class 4A).
