JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Quite a few familiar names headline the United Football League as the rebranded spring football aims to open play in March.

The UFL is the rebranded league following the merger of the USFL and the XFL. The next step of filling rosters comes in the second wave of player dispersals on Jan. 15. Free agency for the league starts Jan. 16, so it’s very likely several players with area ties will be headed to the UFL.

There are eight teams in the league. The XFL ownership group is headlined by actor and wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The USFL is owned by Fox. The two leagues formed a merger last year to create the new UFL. The league is set to kick off on March 30.
