1. (1) Mandarin (12-0-2, Class 7A)
Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Chiles, Creekside, Mandarin, Sandalwood, Stanton, Wolfson.
Glance: The Mustangs are clicking and rolling in the Gateway Conference tournament. They’ve been the area’s best team the last two seasons and have continued that this year. They blanked a solid Sandalwood team 2-0 on Thursday night and face No. 6 Atlantic Coast on Friday for the championship.
2. (2) Creekside (14-4-1, Class 7A)
Notable wins: Beachside, Bishop Kenny, Englewood, Fleming Island, Mainland, Nease, Spruce Creek (twice), Sandalwood, Tocoi Creek.
Glance: The Knights beat St. Augustine in their lone match since our last Super 6. They’ve got a major clash on Friday against rival Bartram Trail.
3. (3) Bartram Trail (6-1-2, Class 7A)
Notable wins: Fleming Island, St. Augustine.
Glance: The Bears return to action on Friday at No. 2 and rival Creekside. Bartram’s only loss is to No. 1 Mandarin. They haven’t played since a 4-0 win over Tocoi Creek.
4. (4) Sandalwood (9-2-5, Class 7A)
Notable wins: Bishop Kenny, Duval Charter, Englewood, Wolfson.
Glance: Sandalwood went 1-1 since our last Super 6, beating Wolfson (3-0) in the Gateway tournament, and then dropping a tough 2-0 game to No. 1 Mandarin on Thursday night. No shame in that loss. The Saints are back in action on Jan. 18 at Bolles.
5. (5) Fleming Island (10-4-1, Class 6A)
Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Bolles, Chiles, Nease, Oakleaf.
Glance: The Golden Eagles lost to Ponte Vedra since our last Super 6. They’ve got Middleburg up next on Friday night. They get the nod ahead of Atlantic Coast, which it has a 2-0 win against this season.
6. (NR) Atlantic Coast (7-1-4, Class 7A)
Notable wins: Clay, Creekside, Stanton (twice)
Glance: The Stingrays are unbeaten in nine consecutive matches, including a win over Stanton in a shootout in the Gateway Conference semis. They’ve got No. 1 Mandarin up next in the conference title game on Friday night.
